It gets pretty crazy at this time of year and with a studio open day coming up, things are even more hectic than normal. This week's blog post takes a sneak peek at the studio as Grenaby prepares for Christmas.

There will certainly be cards in my studio! After the success of the raven drawing 'Nevermore', completed earlier this year, I've adapted the piece to include a Santa hat (the obvious progression!) See below for a work-in-progress photo. It's now finished and being printed as Christmas cards, which will be available to buy on the 10th. I'll have also have packs of 'decorate you own Christmas tree' cards available to purchase (pictured above).

I've managed to put up some Christmas lights around the window, but other than that I haven't got far in preparing the studio for December. I'll certainly be needing a sort-out very soon, but for now I need all the surfaces for creating. My Electra daylight lamp by the Daylight Company is invaluable during the dark winter evenings and it's currently on offer at Amazon as part of their Black Friday deals. It's particularly good as it can give three different light temperatures, so I can have a bluer light while I'm painting and then a warmer light the rest of the time. It also dims, so is a really versatile addition to the studio.

I'll have some artwork from the Isle of Man Nature Journal pictures available to buy at the open day too. I'll have greetings cards of the 'Shield Lichen and Moss' and 'Block Eary' paintings, as well as the original paintings available. I'll also have A3 prints and postcards of 'Nevermore' the raven.

I popped in to see Debs of 'Isle be Creative' this week and her studio was looking fabulously full of treasures. I know the other Grenaby artists will be hard at work as well, so make sure you mark the 10th of December as a date to visit us. Just make sure you take care when parking, as we have some building work happening on site and there isn't quite as much parking as usual.
