Buy Books and Support The Isle of Man Nature Journal

Writer: Emma ButlerEmma Butler

If you love books and have been interested by some of the ones featured on our blog, then check out our new page on Bookshop.org.

Bookshop.org is an online bookseller that gives independent bookshops a percentage of each purchase. It also runs an affiliate scheme that the Isle of Man Nature Journal has recently signed up to, which allows us to create our own Bookshop.org web page containing our recommended books. If you buy through this page the IOMNJ gets a small commission, independent bookshops benefit and you get a lovely new book! Read on to find out more about this website and the lists we're currently curating.

The best way of accessing our page on Bookshop.org is to click on the link from the iomnj.com website or newsletter, but you can search for 'Isle of Man Nature Journal Bookshop.org' on Google and this will bring up a link.

Our page looks like the screenshot below, with our branding at the top and the lists below:

A website page showing a photo of green fields and a coastline. The words Isle of Man Nature journal are in the header of the page with Powered by Bokshop.org just below.

We currently have six lists:

Colour: This list features many of the books that we've recently reviewed on the blog, plus a few more that relate to colour and its use in art.

Identification Guides: Some useful help in identifying tree, insect, bird and flower species. Unfortunately the local guides to Isle of Man flora and fauna aren't available through Bookshop.org. I'll do a blog post reviewing these in future, but I can highly recommend Bridge Bookshop for stocking local interest books.

Art Techniques and Media: This list covers many types of drawing and painting techniques in a variety of media.

Nature Writing: There's nothing better than getting lost in a book about nature. The books on this list are some of our favourites.

Botany and Gardening: Plants are fascinating, varied and an inspiration to artists. Basic botany can be very helpful whether gardening or drawing plants, so this list provides useful resources for finding out more.

Artists: It's always good to explore the work of others as we all create in different ways. This list is sure to interest and inspire.

I hope this post has been a helpful introduction to the Isle of Man Nature Journal page at Bookshop.org and that you enjoy our growing selection of recommended books. It's a very handy way to find any books that we review on the blog and has the added benefit of supporting us and independent bookshops at the same time.

Happy browsing!

Emma
